having fun inside

We have been stuck inside the last couple of days because of the nasty cold weather.  We have needed something to entertain us during those gruesome few hours before dad gets home.  I whipped out my old recipe book where I have a recipe for bubble solution and play dough. We also made a lovely fort and played for hours in it.

They were the perfect activities for two busy toddlers who had been cooped up inside all day.
They were also the perfect activities for a lazy, tired mom because both the play dough and bubbles took 3 minutes to make, I had all the ingredients on hand, it was free, I could stay in my pajamas, and I could just watch and snap pictures because they easily entertained themselves :)

The last picture is of the fort that we made (blanket over a couch...again, I was lazy but they loved it)

These pictures were from three different days...I could only handle one thing a day.

Bubble Solution
1/3 cup dish soap or baby shampoo
1 1/4 cups water
2 tsp sugar
1 drop food coloring

Combine ingredients  and pour into a bowl.  We used pipe cleaners twisted into loops, slotted spoons, a net, a large plastic cutout circle and straws to blow bubbles with.
Jack loved it.  Avery drank it...

Play Dough
1 cup flour
1 cup water
1 Tbl. oil
1/2 cup salt
1 tsp. cream of tartar
food coloring

Mix ingredients in a pan. Cook over medium heat until mixture pulls away from the sides of the pan and becomes doughy in consistency.  Knead until cool. Keeps three months unrefrigerated.
We decided to do this while Avery was sleeping :)
