Jack turns 5

Jack turned 5 on March 29th! (I still can't believe I have a 5 year old!) We had a big friend birthday party planned for him on April 3rd but I felt like we had to do something on his real birthday.

We let him plan his big day so for breakfast we headed to IHOP where he ordered his favorite meal scrambled eggs and pancakes with 3 extra helpings of eggs! The boy LOVES his eggs! After breakfast we let him pick out a new Wii game at Game Stop and of course he picked a basketball game. We also got him a nice indoor/outdoor basketball hoop that we can put in our basement. He plays on that hoop for hours everyday so it was the perfect thing for him! Later that night we went bowling and Nana and Mimi met us there with a gift for Jack and we ended the day with cake and ice cream. It was the perfect little family party to celebrate Jack's birthday!

A few little things about Jack right now:
Basketball is still his favorite thing to do. He loves to play with the neighbor boys on their outdoor hoop and even though they are 8-12 year old boys, he keeps right up with them and they are so good to let him play with them.
He has finally fallen in love with riding his bike...I think we are about at the point when we can take his training wheels off. He is still really cautious but he is getting it!

When I thought that his life would only revolve around sports his imagination has started to come to life. He has been really into Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear lately. He loves to dress up in his Buzz Lightyear costume and he and Avery will climb all over the car in the garage and pretend it is their rocket ship. They also love to play pirates on our swingset outside and I love listening to their make believe conversations.

He still loves learning and preschool. His reading has just taken off! We have moved from level one books to level 2 books and he is learning to sound out big words he has never seen before.

He has started to understand the concept of prayer. A couple weeks ago he had some legs cramps in the middle of the night that would not go away. Landon said a prayer with him and asked Heavenly Father to ease his pain and heal his leg and instantly Jack stopped crying and fell back asleep. Ever since then whenever he gets hurt he asks to say a prayer so that Heavenly Father will heal him. I love that this little five year old has faith enough to believe that Heavenly Father will answer his prayers.

Here are a few pictures from Jack's friends birthday party! Jack went back and forth between doing a bowling party or a basketball party but in the end basketball won out. We decided to have the party in the gym of our church building and it turned out perfectly! We invited all his friends from preschool and his cousins Mckay and Browen so in total we had 14 kids at the party. We set up a bunch of different size basketball hoops and for most of the party the boys just played basketball. Landon was in charge of doing a few basketball games with the boys and I think they were a hit! We also served pizza and fruit for lunch and later had cake and ice cream. We opened presents at the end and all the boys got a little gift bag. For our first friends party I think it turned out great! We definitely won't be doing one every year though! It was a lot of work!
